UC Undergraduate Student Statistics
UC Undergraduate Student Statistics provide an overview of the of the UC undergraduate population throughout their entire careers at the University. It begins by describing the characteristics of the population of UC applicants and admits, then following this group through to enrollment, and finally reviewing their relative success and academic outcomes. These Statistics also present information about academic affordability (costs, financial aid and student indebtedness).
Along with traditional spreadsheets and reports, this information appears in a series of web-based, interactive data dashboards. These dashboards incorporate a variety of indicators, allowing the user to access a wealth of information.
- The Admissions Dashboards depict the educational pipelines of UC undergraduate students and the composition of the student population, in terms of student backgrounds and academic preparedness.
- The Affordability Dashboards summarize educational costs at UC and describe the financial circumstances of UC students. Comparative financial aid data for UC campuses and AAU institutions are also reported so that UC system affordability trends can be compared to national trends.
- The Success Dashboards provide statistics on student completion, retention and academic performance.
The data for these dashboards derives from three sources. The primary source is the Corporate Student System (CSS), which is updated by the ten UC campuses. The CSS contains core information about undergraduate student admissions, enrollment and performance, and is used to meet the management, analytical, and operational needs of the University. The dashboards also draw data from the University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey (UCUES), which solicits student opinions on all aspects of the UC experience. A third data source is the Department of Education's Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which provides comparisons of UC campuses and other AAU institutions.
