| Strawberry Licensing
By integrating the results of research in plant
breeding and production physiology into cultivars and cultural practices, the University of California is
responsible for developing cultivars that produce over half of the strawberry varieties consumed worldwide
and 80 percent in North America.
The newest variety, the Albion (released in 2004), is not only the sweetest, it has improved
flavor and is more resistant to pests and pathogens. The Albion joins other top UC varieties, including
Camarosa, Diamante, and Ventana.
