Academic Program Review

On behalf of the Provost, the Academic Planning unit reviews proposals to establish new academic and professional graduate programs, to consolidate or discontinue existing programs, and to change program names. It reviews the same types of proposals for schools, colleges and other academic units. (With few exceptions, actions related to undergraduate programs occur on the campuses and do not require system level approval.) Proposals reviewed at the system level include both state-supported and self-supporting graduate degree programs. The administrative review runs concurrently with review by the systemwide Academic Senate - specifically, the Coordinating Council on Graduate Affairs (CCGA). In addition, the Academic Planning unit maintains a tracking system to provide campuses information on the status of their proposals, drafts the approval letters for the President, notifies the campus of final approval and maintains program approval records. It also responds to state program review requirements on behalf of the University.
