Senate Bill 1771, authored by Senator Richard Alarcon, requested that the University of California submit to the Legislature by March 1, 2003 a report containing findings and recommendations relating to curriculum and research on diversity and inclusiveness. By identifying those resources and efforts that currently exist within the university, the report will stimulate dialogue on public policies relating to diversity, and could become the springboard for the creation of a coordinated UC program or institute that draws upon the expertise of UC faculty and administrators.
