Statewide Research Programs
As a service to the State of California, the University of California administers three sponsored research programs that target high-priority health issues in California. Funded by state mandates, each program funds an array of grants and initiatives that are open to researchers from all public and private institutions, industrial and nonprofit organizations, and community groups through the state. These programs engage California scientists and community researchers in the investigation of specific diseases, which are responsible for substantial human suffering and staggering financial costs in California. To learn more about these programs and funding opportunities, visit the individual program sites:
- California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP)
- California HIV/AIDS Research Program (CHRP)
- Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP)
UC Grants Research Program
The University of California Office of the President directly funds a handful of systemwide research grants, which are managed by the Research Grants Program Office. To learn more about these funding opportunities, visit the individual grant or program sites:
- Canada-California Strategic Innovation Partnership (CCSIP)
Funding for bilateral initiatives addressing key priorities shared by California and Canada – to stimulate novel ideas and catalyze the development of innovative multi-campus and multi-disciplinary research and educational collaborations between the two jurisdictions. - Multi-campus Research Programs and Initiatives (MRPI)
Support for innovative research programs and collaborations that advance knowledge and discovery, promote unique student research experiences, and tackle problems of critical importance to the University and the State. - UC Discovery Grant (UCDG)
Matching grants provide joint support for industry-university research collaborations in multiple fields, including (but not limited to): Biofuels, Biotechnology, Communications and Networking, Electronics Manufacturing and New Materials, IT for Life Sciences, and Nanotechnology. - UC Laboratory Fees Research Grant
Funds provide support for research projects related to the missions of the laboratories and emphasizes collaborations between University faculty, staff and students and the research staff at the laboratories. - UC Proof of Concept Program: Commercialization Gap Grant
Funds provide support to bridge the gap from research to commercialization. By facilitating the successful commercialization of innovations to society, this initiative is expected to have a positive impact on California and the state's economy.
Other Funding Opportunities
In addition to the RGPO managed programs and grants described above, the Office of Research and Graduate Studies offers a limited number of additional funding opportunities to support systemwide research priorities. Learn more about other ORGS funding opportunities.
