The University of California has more than 13,000 faculty members and has one of the most prominent faculties in higher education, currently including 23 Nobel Laureates, 372 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 45 recipients of the National Medal of Science, 485 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and 109 members of the Institutes of Medicine. UC's diverse faculty are often leaders and experts in their fields, and have often been called upon to lead national organizations, taskforces and committees.
